In the previous years a lot has happened in the world of football, both in Netherlands and abroad. How marvellous it would be to watch those special moments again on the video ! Dutch Soccer Office has a lot of those exciting and historical moments of the seventies and the last years ! Here is a small show of different soccer events that any soccer fan would like to watch again.

Dutch National Team:

In the world championship of 1974 in West Germany, Holland was considered one of the best teams in the world, but it only gained the second place. Holland started the tournament against Uruguay with a 2 – 0 victory in which Johnny Rep scored 2 goals. After a draw of 0 – 0 with Sweden, they won 4 – 1 to Bulgaria and they won the second round. After that Holland played against Argentina and they won 4 – 0. The second game they scored 2 – 0 against Germany. The last game against Brazil would decide who would be in the final. Holland won 2 – 0 at the semi final. Johan Neeskens and Johan Cruijff scored the goals. But they lost 1 – 2 against Germany at the finals. Johan Cruijff suffered a fault and they had a penalty, which Johan Neeskens scored a goal. It was the first time a penalty was marked on a world final. 

The World Championship 1978 In Argentina

The first game of this world championship was won by 3 – 0 against Iran and the goals were from Rob Rensenbrink. The second game was a disappointment as they had a draw 0 – 0 against Peru. They had a small defeat of 2 – 3 against Scotland but sufficient to put us in the second round. We beated Austria by 5 – 0. At this game Arie Haan scored a fantastic long distant goal and he repeats it again when playing against the Italians. After 2 – 0 victory against the Italians, they won for the second time the semi – final. Then Holland played against Argentina the host country and they lost again. After Dick Nanninga had made a draw 1 – 1, they lost for 3 – 1 on the extra time.

The European Championship 1988 In Germany

For the first time since 1980, Holland is again in a big tournament and with success. After an hesitating first game against the Soviet Union, in which they lost for 0 – 1, Holland beats England by 3 – 0 and Marco Van Basten scored all the goals. The last game was won at the last moment against Ireland. Wim Kieft scored a goal on the last 82 minutes and they won the game by 1 – 0. They finally reached the semi – final. The last game was in Hamburg. Marco Van Basten scored a goal on the last 89 minutes and they went to the finals. Holland played against the Soviet Union and Holland won by 2 – 0. Ruud Gullit was the first one to score the goal.

The World Championship 1998 In France

On the first game against Belgium, the opening of the tournament, Holland suffered a red card which was shown to Patrick Kluivert. They had a draw 0 – 0. Holland won by 5 – 0 against South Korea. On the last of the group Holland had a draw for 2 – 2 against Mexico. On the second round, Holland played against Yugoslavia. After the Yugoslavs failing a penalty, Holland won by 2 – 1. Edgar Davids scored the goal and they reached the quarter – finals.
> They played against Argentina and they won by 2 – 1 with a marvellous goal from Dennis Bergkamp. They faced Brazil again in the semi – finals. On the former 4 years we were defeated by the Brazilians and now it happened again. But they played the whole game and finally they had to have penalties to decide the winner. After Philip Cocu and Ronald De Boer failed the dream was over. Holland finished on the fourth place after loosing with Croatia by 1 - 2.

The European Championship 2000 In Holland And Belgium
The quarter – finals against Yugoslavia, were a true orange show. Yugoslavia lost by 1 – 3 Patrick Kluivert was the Dutch hero. He scored 3 goals. The 3rd goal was officially marked as a an own goal of Dejan Govedarica. At a 0 – 0 it was Edwin van der Sar who saved Holland for a 0 – 1 defeat. He saved a great chance of Mijatovic. In the 24th minute it was Patrick Kluivert who made the 1 – 0 for Holland, after a nice assist of Dennis Bergkamp.


Ajax, and PSV and Feyenoord

There are of course historical moments in Football, At great clubs such as Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord.

Ajax

The different finals of Ajax in the Euro cup are since 1969, 1971, 1972, 1987, 1992 and of course 1995. In this last year Ajax also won the world cup against Gremio. Think about the return of Johan Cruijf as a football player in 1981 at Ajax and the penalty in two with Johan Cruijf en Jesper Olsen. The arrival of young players such as Frank Rijkaard, Marco van Basten and Ronald de Boer at Ajax. Also was Johan Cruijf appointed as a technical director in 1985. But think about the new inflation of players, such as Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, John Heitinga, Steven Pienaar, Nicola Mitea and Nigel de Jong.

PSV

From 1914 the football team PSV takes part on national competition. They would be for the first time national champion in 1929. They won the first Dutch cup in 1950. Five years later PSV is the first Dutch club participating in the official tournament for the coupe Europιene, later known as the European Cup I. In the mid seventies PSV is experiencing a golden period. With players such as Willy van der Kuylen, The brothers van de Kerkhof, Jan van Beveren, Jan Poortvliet, Harry Lubse and Huub Stevens; PSV wins twice the Dutch cup and 3 times the national championships. Above all PSV is celebrating on 9th of may of 1978 his first big European triumph after a great home game against Bastia, which PSV won with 3 – 0. PSV won the UEFA Cup.

In the 2nd half of the eighties PSV has a team with many international top players, well known names from that period are.. Ruud Gullit, Ronald Koeman, Hans van Breukelen, Gerald Vanenburg, Wim Kieft, Sφren Lerby, Frank Arnesen and Erik Gerets. From 1986 till 1992 PSV becomes in seven seasons national champion and wins 3 times the Dutch Cup. 1988 was the highlight of PSV, they won “The Treble”. After winning the national title and the KNVB cup, PSV plays on the 25th of May in the European Cup I against the Portuguese team Benfica. After a very intense game and extra time, PSV won with penalties from Benfica. PSV gets one of the greatest talent of the world to the Philips Stadion: Romario de Sousa Faria.

> In the beginning of the 90΄s he is without doubt the star of the Dutch football field. After he left in 1993 his place is taken by another great talent. Ronaldo Luiz Nazario De Lima. Ronaldo is also considered a top class player. In 1996 PSV becomes for the 14th time in his existence national champion and won also the Johan Cruijf cup. In 1998 for the 3rd time on a row PSV won the Johan Cruijf Cup and the Cup goes with the players to Eindhoven. In 2003 PSV starts the season with the same team, adding to them Michael Lamey, Arjen Robben and Remco van der Schaaf. PSV won finally on the last day against FC Groningen his 17th national championship. Because of the national championship they entered immediately into the Champions League.

Feyenoord

In 1992 Feyenoord plays against PSV in the Philip Stadium. Jozef Kiprich scored the 2700 goal of Feyenoord since the setting of paid football. This game was good enough for 1 – 1, a draw. Ed de Goey stopped a penalty from Romario. In the season 1992/1993 Feyenoord won under the leadership of Willem Van Hanegem for the 13th time the national championship. In 1994 Feyenoord won again the KNVB Cup and afterwards his stadium was renovated. In 1995 Feyenoord for the 10th time in history the KNVB Cup. In 1999 Feyenoord becomes for the 14th time the National Champion. In 2002 Feyenoord won the UEFA Cup In 1992 Feyenoord achieved the Semi Final of the European Cup II. Also in 1996 he gets so far. In 1997 Feyenoord played in the Champions League against Juventus.

> At home they won 2 – 0, despite this victory they did not make the 1st round. In 2000 led by Leo Beenhakker, Feyenoord won again the National Title. In 2000 Feyenoord achieved the 2nd round of the Champions League winning against Lazio and Olympique Marseille, but unfortunately they did not achieved the quarter finals. In 2002 Feyenoord won the European Cup II with two goals from Pierre van Hooijdonk and one of Tomasson against Borussioa Dortmund. Feyenoord won the European Supercup against Real Madrid. Famous players were; Kees van Wonderen, Regi Blinker, Gaston Taument, Henk Larsson, John de Wolf, Paul Bosveld, Joszef Kiprichand and Pierrre van Hooijdonk.
